Chevreuse ([ʃəvʁøz]) is a French commune situated in the département des Yvelines in the Île-de-France region. A peri-urban commune located at the western end of the urban area of Paris, it lies around thirty kilometres to the south-west of the capital, near the scientific and technological hub of Paris-Saclay. It forms an integral part of the parc naturel régional Haute Vallée de Chevreuse.
A little history
The château de la Madeleine de Chevreuse was once one of the strongest castles in the vicinity of Paris. In the 11th century, Guy Ier, seigneur de Chevreuse, began the construction of a fortified castle dominating the village, the château de la Madeleine. He is most likely responsible for the keep built between 1030 and 1090 which, at the time, was surrounded by a wooden palisade. The walls would not appear until the 12th century, probably around 1146.
