A little history

For documentary sources on the duché de La Vallière and the seigneurial history of Chasteaux in the Middle Ages, see the article on Vaujours. Under the Ancien Régime, Château-la-Vallière formed an integral part of Anjou and more precisely of the angevin sénéchaussée of Baugé (dependent on the principal sénéchaussée of Angers) until the French Revolution. When the French départements were created in 1790, the entire eastern part of Anjou, from Château-la-Vallière in the north as far as Bourgueil in the south, passing through the estate of the château de Gizeux, was attached to the brand new département of Indre-et-Loire.
