Chapdes-Beaufort [ʃa(p)d bofɔʁ] is a French commune situated in the département of Puy-de-Dôme, in the région of Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes.
A little history
The site was occupied during the Stone Age (see the article on prehistory) and during the Gallo-Roman period, as evidenced by the remains found during archaeological digs. In the Middle Ages, mention is made of the seigneurie de Beaufort situated in the parish of Chapdes. In 1219, Guillaume and Raoul de Beaufort, brothers, gave a part of their lands to the Carthusian order. On that site on the banks of the Sioule, the chartreuse du Port-Sainte-Marie was founded.
