A little history
Excavations have revealed traces of settlement dating back to Prehistory (two Neolithic sites are recorded). Gallo-Roman remains were found in 1869 in the Noirval area, notably a stele of the god Mars. Furthermore, the site of a Gallo-Roman villa was the subject of a rescue excavation in 1969/1970 at the lieu-dit Au Sarrasin. There they discovered in particular a cellar containing a deposit of bronze objects, more or less broken, which were no doubt intended for smelting (including a statue of Dionysos).
