Champdeniers (in Poitevin Chandna), previously named Champdeniers-Saint-Denis between 1973 and 2018, is a French commune situated in the département des Deux-Sèvres, in the région Nouvelle-Aquitaine. Its inhabitants are called the Campidénariens.
A little history
In 1469, King Louis XI, who always prayed to Notre Dame, patron of the kingdom of France, stayed at Champdeniers, before carrying out, at Puyraveau and at Coulonges-sur-Réaux (now Puyravault and Coulonges-sur-l'Autize), a reconciliation with his brother Charles de Guyenne, who had provoked a feudal revolt organised by Charles le Téméraire in 1465, the ligue du Bien public. On 1 January 1973, the commune of Saint-Denis merged with Champdeniers, which took the name Champdeniers-Saint-Denis. On the same date, the commune of Champeaux entered into a merger-association with Champdeniers.
