A little history
The battle known as the bataille du Mans took place notably in the commune on 10 and 12 January 1871, principally on the site of the military camp of Auvours (hence the name sometimes given of bataille d'Auvours), as well as at Changé. It was a decisive defeat of France against Prussia in the context of the guerre franco-allemande of 1870. In defeat, nearly one third of the French armée de la Loire had deserted, 29,000 soldiers were killed, wounded or taken prisoner. The remainder of the army fell back towards Laval, reached on 16 January, abandoning behind it the bulk of its supply train and artillery.
