The commune is situated in the arrondissement of Villeneuve-sur-Lot and forms part of the communauté de communes des Bastides en Haut-Agenais Périgord.
A little history
The site of Castillonnès formed part of the estate of the abbaye de Cadouin. The lands had been given to the abbey upon the death of the knight Maurin of the family of the seigneurs de Mons, around 1150. To maintain them, the abbaye de Cadouin founded there the abbey or priory of Grand-Mauroux. It brought in agricultural workers from the Limousin and the Périgord to drain the marshes and clear the land.
