A little history
It appears that the site was used by a Roman settlement. Small objects from the period of Roman occupation were discovered on the sites of the old and new churches. At the crossing of the Dordogne, in 732, the troops of Abd al-Rahman defeated those of Eudes, duc d'Aquitaine. The earliest available documents relating to the commune illustrate the role of the viscounts of Castillon who, in the last quarter of the 11th century, distinguished themselves in their work of renovation or founding of various religious establishments such as Saint-Florent de Castillon.
