A little history
On 26 August 1891, by decree of the president of the republic, Brioux became Brioux-sur-Boutonne. The town owes its name to the bridge over the Boutonne, a tributary of the Charente, crossed by the Roman road from Poitiers to Saintes. Several other roads met there at a crossroads. The town, whose ancient name was Brigiosum, appears on the table de Peutinger.
