Brassy (nivernais Bressy) is a French commune situated in the département de la Nièvre in the région Bourgogne-Franche-Comté.
A little history
Once the Gallo-Roman Braciacum, the parish has been known since 1052. Henri de Clamecy founded a Benedictine monastery there, attached to the abbaye de La Charité-sur-Loire. Brassy was the chief town of its canton until 1800 and was connected to the wider road network in the 19th century through the creation of a road crossing the Morvan from Lormes, at the initiative of the député André Dupin, known as Dupin Aîné, président de la Chambre des députés under the Monarchie de Juillet. In June 1944, the château de La Chaume des Vaux was the rallying point for the headquarters of André Rondenay, known as Jarry, and of capitaine Pierre Henneguier, head of the maquis Julien, a Resistance organisation in the Morvan.
