Bouin ([bwɛ̃]) is a French commune situated in the département of Vendée, in the région Pays de la Loire. Its inhabitants are called the Bouinais(es). Before the creation of the départements, Bouin was part of the Marches Bretagne-Poitou, with a shared belonging to Bretagne and Poitou in temporal terms, and to Bretagne (diocèse de Nantes) in spiritual terms.
A little history
In 820, the vicus de Bouin was ravaged by the Vikings. In 1473, it was burnt down by French soldiers who had come to wage war against Bretagne. Coming from the south, they burnt the first Breton parish they encountered. That was therefore the Isle de Bouin.
