Bossay-sur-Claise is a French commune in the département of Indre-et-Loire, in the Centre-Val de Loire region. Exposed to an altered oceanic climate, it is drained by the Claise, the Grand Vicq, the ruisseau de Sauvaget, the ruisseau de Sauvaget and various other small watercourses. The commune possesses a remarkable natural heritage comprising two Natura 2000 sites and eight natural areas of ecological, faunal and floral interest.
A little history
The Solutrean site of les Maîtreaux, 1.4 km to the south-west of Bossay, was in 2008 the only known site to have yielded haematite pigments produced by the heating of goethite, approximately 18,000 years old. It also yielded a Badegoulian occupation level. On 14 January 1814, an imperial decree abolished the commune of Saint-Michel-du-Bois and attached it principally to that of Preuilly. Certain hamlets of this former commune were however assigned to other localities. These were the hamlets of la Tuilerie, les Mondains, Villejesus, la Commanderie, la Philonnerie, la Gagnetterie and Foix, which were attached to Bossay.
