Biot (pronounced [bjɔt], "Biotte") is a French commune situated in the département des Alpes-Maritimes, within the région Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur. Its inhabitants are called the Biotois. Heavily urbanised today and increasingly integrated into the conurbation bordering the Côte d'Azur coastline, it has nonetheless kept almost intact the hilltop village that forms its historic heart, whilst new districts have been built on the lower slopes from the second half of the twentieth century onwards, at the expense of agricultural land that was notably devoted to horticulture under glass.
