Aubin is a French commune situated in the département of Aveyron, in the Occitanie region, between Decazeville and Firmi. The architectural heritage of the commune includes five listed buildings protected under the title of monuments historiques, the église Saint-Blaise, the école Jules-Ferry du Gua, the église Notre-Dame, the église Notre-Dame-des-Mines and the factory chimneys.
A little history
Lucien Mazars, author of numerous works on local history, writes in Aubin, son histoire, des origines à la Révolution de 1789, that tradition has it that Aubin, which bore the name Albin until the end of the 18th century, was founded by the Roman general Declus Clodius Albinus, or in his honour. However, General Albinus did not serve as legate in Gaul but in Bretagne (present-day Great Britain). His control of Gaul was in all likelihood too brief to have founded a town. The fort d'Aubin served first as a fortress and was then occupied during the Middle Ages by the lords of the Rouergue.
