Aubenas is a French commune situated in the Ardèche department in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. It is the chief town of the canton and is found in the south of the department. A little history
A founding date as early as the 5th century may be proposed, the high ground of Aubenas already being the subject of a tenacious struggle between the bishops of Puy and those of Viviers to secure the construction and lasting presence of a stronghold. The noble families known as Allard settled there, freezing the conflict to their own advantage. It should be noted that the castle is only attested, according to Hippolyte Monnier, from the 13th century. It was substantially remodelled before the end of the 16th century.
