Le Teil, sometimes called Le Teil d'Ardèche, is a French commune situated in the département of Ardèche in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, in the former historic region of Vivarais.
A little history
The gare du Teil had a large PLM and then SNCF depot. Due to its geographical position, 150 km from Lyon and 110 km from Nîmes, the depot at Le Teil made it possible, on its north-south axis, to ease pressure on the left bank of the Rhône. In addition to its freight role and its function as a relay depot, it was responsible for local passenger services as well as all services on the Ardèche lines, branching off the Lyon to Nîmes main line and more particularly the branches from Le Pouzin to Privas, Le Teil to Lalevade-d'Ardèche, and their connections from Vogüé to Alès (via Robiac-Rochessadoule) and from Saint-Sernin to Largentière. Le Teil was affected by the bataille de Montélimar.
