Asnières-sur-Nouère (pronounced [aɲεʀsyʀnwεʀ]) is a commune in the South-West of France situated in the département of Charente, in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. Asnières-sur-Nouère is part of Grand Angoulême.

A little history

In the 19th century, the remains of a Gallo-Roman villa were discovered at Maine Brun, situated not far from the Chemin des Anglais, along with other ancient remains. The Fossé au Comte was an entrenchment built by the counts of Angoulême before the 9th century in an attempt to protect themselves against Norse invasions. This ditch, 20 km long, connected the Charente upstream of Angoulême to the Charente downstream, and ran from north-east to south-west from Montignac to Vibrac via Douzat. It passed along the north-western boundary of the commune (Bois de Neuillac, Boursandreau).
