Autrefois adhérente à la communauté de communes de la région Saint-Jeannaise, la petite commune essentiellement rurale est rattachée depuis 2014 à la communauté de communes Bièvre Isère et historiquement, à l'ancienne province du Dauphiné. La commune, qui se présente sur son site officiel comme un village à caractère rural, revendique le titre de « berceau de la fête des mères », en France, celle-ci y a été organisée pour la première fois en 1906 à l'initiative du maire.
