A little history
During the reconstruction of the church at the end of the 19th century, a sarcophagus, pottery and glassware dating back to the Gallo-Roman period were discovered on the site. Aerial archaeology carried out notably by Roger Agache confirmed the presence of prehistoric or ancient and medieval substructures. Certain writings note that Ailly would have first belonged to the counts of Vermandois in the 12th century, with Ébrard de Breteuil styling himself "seigneur de Tartigny et d'Ailly". The seigneury was transferred by succession, marriage or sale throughout the Middle Ages until the Revolutionary period.
