A little history
The site of Achères has been inhabited since the Neolithic period. Traces of Gallo-Roman settlements have also been found. In 911, the Normans who were ravaging the area are said to have pillaged the hamlet of Rocourt, where a castle belonging to the seigneurie d'Achères is thought to have stood. However, no document exists prior to 1212, the year in which the inhabitants of Achères obtained permission from Philippe Auguste to collect deadwood in the forêt de Laye and to graze their animals there.
