Voreppe is a French commune situated in the département of Isère, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. Positioned in the central part of the département of Isère, the territory of the commune of Voreppe is bordered by the Isère on its western boundary and by the cliffs of the massif de la Chartreuse on its eastern side. The latter facing the cliffs of the Vercors, situated on the other side of the Isère, the area forms a geological ensemble known as the cluse de Voreppe, which marks the entrance to the Alps, and more precisely the Y grenoblois.
A little history
The earliest occupation of the Voreppe territory is attested by flint tools found at the site des Balmes, the grottes à Bibi and the grotte de Fontabert, dating from the end of the Upper Palaeolithic (12th–10th millennium BC). From the beginning of the Bronze Age dates an axe-spatula originating from the manufacturing workshops of the civilisation du Rhône-Saône (beginning of the 2nd millennium BC).
