The history of the village dates back to Celtic civilisation, as proved by the discovery of a gilded bronze bull's leg. A few remnants of walls and roof tiles can also be found, bearing witness to the presence of Gallo-Roman villas. In the 10th century, at Fleyriac (today Fleyriat), sources attest to a place of worship in the hamlet. In the 12th century, a church and a priory appeared under the name of Viriacus.
