A little history
The Duke of Brittany Alain III was poisoned there on 1st October 1040. The abbaye de Jumièges held rights there, notably a market over which Roger Ier de Montgommery, vicomte d'Hiémois, entered into conflict with it. In 1800, the town was briefly occupied by the Norman chouannerie. In 1830, the commune of Vimoutiers (3,198 inhabitants in 1821), established by the French Revolution, absorbed that of Pont-de-Vie (83 inhabitants) to the south-west of its territory.
