A little history
According to legend, Sées owes its wealth in ancient times to the existence of a golden cockerel appearing every evening at midnight and crowing. The Gaulish settlement that pre-existed developed after the Roman conquest. The agglomeration took the name of Sagium and became the chief town of the civitas of the Sagii. The discovery of Roman coins, capitals in the Corinthian style and the remains of a Gallo-Roman temple destroyed in the 4th and 5th centuries attest to this.
