Villemoisson-sur-Orge (pronounced [vilmwasɔ̃ syʁ ɔʁʒ]) is a French commune situated twenty-three kilometres south of Paris in the département of l'Essonne in the Île-de-France region. It is part of the communauté d'agglomération Cœur d'Essonne Agglomération. Its inhabitants are known as the Villemoissonnais.
A little history
Whilst the hamlet of Sainte-Geneviève lies on the opposite side of the forêt de Séquigny, at the current boundary of Sainte-Geneviève-des-Bois, a Gallo-Roman villa may perhaps be at the origin of Villemoisson. It stood not far from the pont de la Fouille, whose name strongly evokes archaeological discoveries. Among its ruins, a statuette, a key and coins were uncovered. This villa was burned down at the time of the great invasions, and the two coins mark the beginning and end of its existence.
