A little history
During Antiquity, the region of Villefontaine was populated by the Allobroges, a Gaulish people whose territory was situated between the Isère, the Rhône and the northern Alps. From -121 onwards, this territory, named Allobrogie, was incorporated into the Roman province of Viennois with the city of Vienne as its capital until the Early Middle Ages. The territory of Villefontaine lies on the edge of the Roman road Alpis Graia linking Vienne to Milan, via Bourgoin. This road was built between 45 BC.
