Villars [vilaʁ] is a French commune situated in the département de la Loire in the région Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes.
A little history
The obituary of the Église de Lyon mentions the donation of the dean Blandinus (around 1085–87), who gave the church of Villars, the cemetery and its lands to the Église de Lyon. The existence of the locality is attested in writing from as early as the 12th century. Mention of it is made in the permutation of 1173, consecrating the separation of the Lyonnais and the Forez, which leaves Villars at the liberty of the Église de Lyon. Following this act, the parish of Villars formed part of an enclave directly dependent on the chapitre de Lyon, on the borders of the Jarez and the Forez, and was finally returned to the seigneurie de Saint-Priest-en-Jarez in 1278.
