A little history
Silver medals found in the commune of Villars bearing the likeness of Roman emperors such as Trajan prove the existence of a settlement on the present-day commune of Villars-les-Dombes around 24 BC, during the Gallo-Roman period. Furthermore, a Roman road linked the town to Montluel. An archaeological excavation carried out to the west of the village, at the locality known as la Mantolière, identified an occupation dating from the 1st century AD.
