A little history
The Roman road from Jublains to Lisieux passed close to the current built-up area, which suggests the site was occupied from that period onwards. In the Middle Ages, the lord of Mayenne erected a château on a mound, not far from the village of Saint-Georges, the nucleus of the settlement. Aiglibert, bishop of Le Mans, gave to the monastery of Sainte-Marie half the tithes of Villaines, Trans and Thorigné, on 9 July 692. These localities were also confirmed to saint Aldric by Louis le Débonnaire in 892 but under the name of Vilhena.
