Vidauban is a French commune situated in the département of Var, in the region of Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, on the banks of the Argens. It has experienced rapid demographic growth, with 8,546 inhabitants in 2005 and 12,693 inhabitants in 2020 according to INSEE.
A little history
The fortified enclosures situated on the heights of Sainte-Brigitte, at the fort des Mûres and at Châteauneuf, confirm a human presence during the Iron Age. The remains of a Roman road were uncovered in the sector of les Blaïs. Other remains suggest that the ancient city of Forum Voconii must have been situated between the current hamlet of les Blaïs and the domaine des termes at le Cannet des Maures. Towards the end of the first millennium, in order to avoid the Saracens established at la Garde Freinet, the inhabitants retreated to the heights, though only temporarily, with their lives organised along the route d'Italie, which was lined with around ten chapels.
