A little history
Before the Roman era, Vic-en-Bigorre was a settlement of the oppidum de Bigorra, the former capital of the Bigerriones. Following the conquest of Aquitaine by the Romans (in 56 BC by Publius Crassus), the Celtiberian settlement developed into a Gallo-Roman vicus. On the territory of the oppidum, the Gallo-Romans erected a fortification in the 4th century, the Castrum Bigorra, today known as Saint-Lézer.
