Verdun-sur-le-Doubs is a former French commune situated in the département of Saône-et-Loire, in the région of Bourgogne-Franche-Comté. On 1 January 2025, it merged with Ciel to form the new commune of Verdun-Ciel.
A little history
In the Middle Ages, the feudal family known as de Verdun held the seigneury (a house linked to the Chalon, and possessing a tower in Verdun at the beginning of the 13th century), until around the middle of the 14th century, the period when the rule of the Verdun came to an end with two co-seigneurs, Eudes de Verdun (who ceded his share to duc Philippe in 1365), and Jean de Verdun, whose daughter Alarde Adélaïde de Verdun passed her share to her husband Jean de Sainte-Croix, knight, seigneur de Savigny, Coulanges, Montfort and Lacour. Their heiress daughter Jeanne de Sainte-Croix married Guillaume de Luyrieux de la Cueille, from whom descendants followed.
