A little history
Solutrean laurel-leaf flints were discovered at Volgu sur Rigny-sur-Arroux, approximately 2 km to the south of the village and 4.7 km to the north-east of Digoin. The discovery of Gallo-Roman remains bears witness to a relatively ancient settlement. The place carried the Latin names of Denegontium and then Digonium. Merovingian remains have been discovered at Digoin. For several centuries, the town's activity took place around the grève on which a river port had been laid out on the Loire.
