Valromey-sur-Séran is a new French commune resulting from the merger, on 1 January 2019, of the communes of Belmont-Luthézieu, Lompnieu, Sutrieu and Vieu, situated in the département of Ain in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region.
A little history
An idea for a new commune arose in October 2015 through the initiative of the municipality of Champagne-en-Valromey, which proposed a merger with five communes of Belmont-Luthézieu, Lompnieu, Sutrieu and Vieu. However, on 12 January 2016, Champagne abandoned the project as it wished to restrict the scope of the proposal. The project resurfaced during 2018 with the same communes. Nevertheless, during the municipal council vote for approval of the project, a majority of councillors from Champagne voted against it on 12 November 2018, even though the commune was intended to be the chef-lieu.
