A little history
Urrugne was the only parish between Nivelle and Bidassoa, and the lord of Urtubie held spiritual and temporal jurisdiction over it. Ciboure gained its religious autonomy in 1555 and broke away from the mother church. Hendaye did the same in 1598. The house of Urtubie became a viscountcy in 1654.
