Anglet (pronounced [ɑ̃ɡlɛt]) is a French commune situated on the Atlantic coast, in the département des Pyrénées-Atlantiques in the région Nouvelle-Aquitaine. A commune within the aire d'attraction de Bayonne and included in its urban area, Anglet forms part of the communauté d'agglomération du Pays Basque and of the Basque province of Labourd.
A little history
Based on excavations carried out at Sutar, at the site known as the Ballastière de Micoteau (discovered before the construction of the motorway between the Sutar school and the railway line), it is now known that the earliest occupation of the land at Anglet dates back to prehistory (Middle Palaeolithic) and to the Mousterian culture (from 100,000 to 35,000 BC). Various flint tools characteristic of that period were discovered. The use of flakes and bifaces formed into sharp points (scrapers and side-scrapers) made it possible to work hides and to fashion axes from wooden handles.
