A little history
Paul Raymond notes that in 1385, Lons had thirty-one hearths and came under the bailliage de Pau. The baronnie de Lons became a marquisat by letters of May 1648, which encompassed Abitain, Anoye, Baleix, Castillon, Juillacq, le Leu (a hamlet of Oraàs), Lion, Lons, Maspie, Oraàs, Peyrède (a fief of Oraàs), Sauvagnon and Viellepinte. It was created in favour of Philippe-Bernard de Lons. The marquis passed down the office of lieutenant de roi au gouvernement de Navarre et Béarn from 1693 onwards.
