Tignieu-Jameyzieu is a French commune situated in the département of Isère, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. Formerly attached to the royal province of Dauphiné, it is one of the three central towns of the unité urbaine de Charvieu-Chavagneux, situated in the east of the aire d'attraction de Lyon. The commune was first a member of the communauté de communes de l'Isle-Crémieu, before joining the communauté de communes Les Balcons du Dauphiné in 2017 following the merger of several intercommunalités.
A little history
The name Tignieu is attested in 1311 by a deed according to which its lord Guichard « Textoris » ceded to the Dauphin Jean II de Viennois a piece of land situated in the parish. In 1458, Tignieu and Jameyzieu were two separate parishes. The union between the communes was formalised in 1840. In 1867, the commune of Pont de Chéruy expanded at the expense of Tignieu-Jameyzieu, Charvieu, and Chavanoz.
