The history of the commune, which was doubtless occupied by the Meldes, begins in the Gallo-Roman period. The town was then called Tauriniacum. Until the unification of the Kingdom, Thorigny was situated between the pays de France and the comté de Champagne, with the Marne forming this border. The river was crossed by ford or by boat. The first bridge was built by Albéric, seigneur de Montjay, in the 12th century.
