A little history
The origins of Tarnos are poorly understood. Its earliest mentions date back to the 12th and 13th centuries. Furthermore, the Livre d'Or of the cathedral of Bayonne, dating from the 13th century, bears witness on several occasions to the existence of the parish of Saint Vincent de Tarnos. Until the 18th century, Tarnos was a parish with scattered settlements across several hamlets and large estates, Ordozon, Garros, Romatet, Estiey, Boucau. Its economy was principally oriented towards agriculture and rested on traditional farming and livestock rearing.
