Sury-le-Comtal, locally abbreviated as Sury, (Suriô or Suriô-le-Comtâl in Arpitan) is a French commune situated in the south of Forez, in the département of Loire in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, forming part of Loire Forez Agglomération and the former province of Forez.
A little history
The ancient history, and that of even earlier periods, of Sury-le-Comtal remains a subject of debate. Pre-ancient discoveries are rather sparse, and consist principally in the discovery in 1882 of a long flint shaped as a dagger, during the cutting of the canal du Forez. Other flints have been found elsewhere in the commune, notably at the lieu-dit les Massards in the north of the commune, as well as evidence of a settlement. From the ancient period, the villas of Surus and Albinus have come down to us.
