Solliès-Pont [sɔljɛs pɔ̃] is a French commune located in the Var département of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region, situated 12 km north of Toulon. Its inhabitants are called the Solliès-Pontois.

A little history

The canton of Solliès-Pont has its origins in the locality of Solliès-Ville (formerly Solliès-le-Haut), built during the Gallo-Roman period. The small town grew out of the division of what was once the territory of Solliès-Ville and Solliès-le-Haut, a locality dependent on the lordship of the Forbin family, situated on the rocky spur overlooking the Gapeau valley. Thanks to this location, during the long Barbary period, the inhabitants would take refuge on the hilltops to escape Saracen raids. Towards the end of the Middle Ages, the first dwellings were built near the bridge over the Gapeau.
