Savigny-le-Temple is a French commune situated in the département of Seine-et-Marne, in the Île-de-France region. Originally a rural village, the commune was incorporated into the new town of Sénart from the early 1970s onwards and subsequently experienced a spectacular rise in its population. With 31,148 inhabitants at the 2023 census, Savigny-le-Temple is the fifth most populous town in the département after Meaux, Chelles, Melun and Pontault-Combault.
A little history
Before Gaul was conquered by the Romans, the territory of the commune was under the dominion of the Sénons, whose capital was at Sens, on the border with the Parisii. However, few vestiges of this period have survived in Savigny-le-Temple. The founding of the town appears to date back to the Gallo-Roman period. Nevertheless, a series of preventive excavations on the ZAC du Mont-Blanc brought to light an occupation dating from the end of the La Tène period.
