A little history
The village of Saint-Yrieix-les-Bois bore the name Sancti Aredii in the 13th century. Sancti Aredii means Saint Arède in French. It refers to a religious figure who lived in the 6th century and contributed to the evangelisation of the Limousin, notably by founding the abbaye d'Attane, which is at the origin of Saint-Yrieix-la-Perche in Haute-Vienne. In the 14th century, bosco (meaning bois, or wood, in French) was added to the name of the village.
