A little history
Ahun, during the Roman Empire, was a vicus of the civitas of the Lémovices, named Acitodunum, appearing on the Table de Peutinger. It was a station of the cursus publicus — a mansio or mutatio — situated on the Roman road from Lugdunum (Lyon) to Mediolanum Santonum (Saintes). Near the vicus, a protohistoric enclosure now bearing the name Camp de César may suggest an earlier occupation. Fragments of columns, bases and capitals incorporated as reused materials in the houses of Ahun and Bonnafoux have been found, as well as the ruins of a colonnade on a stylobate between Ahun and Moutier d'Ahun.
