A little history
The commune, known in its early days alternately as Naillat and Naillac, came into being in the first years of the French Revolution. Naillat was an organised place of refuge by the Cimade during the Second World War. From January 1943, the village sheltered 1,500 refugees, the majority of them Jewish, coming from the small Pyrenean town of Eaux-Bonnes. This episode is recounted by Jeanne Merle d'Aubigné and Violette Mouchon in Les clandestins de Dieu - Cimade 1939-1945.
