A little history
The conquest of Gaul by Jules César led the Roman armies, heading towards Autun, to the foot of Bibracte. It drove them to cross the region through the bois de Cressus. From the passage of General Valerius through the Gaulish countryside, the village that bears his name would be born. Following its conversion to Christianity, this village would become Sanctus Valerius, then Saint-Valère, and finally Saint-Vallier as it is known today.
