Saint-Trivier-sur-Moignans, formerly known as « Saint-Trivier-en-Dombes », its former name, is a French commune, chief town of the canton of the département of Ain, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, situated 32 km to the south-east of Mâcon. Its inhabitants are called the Utingeois.
A little history
Around 1050, Eustache, comte de Forez, enfeoffed it to Guichard II de Beaujeu. Saint-Trivier constituted in the 12th century a symbolic fief of the sires de Beaujeu, who directed their expansion projects increasingly towards the Forez (the present-day département of Loire). It was not until the peace treaty of 8 April 1222 between Humbert V de Beaujeu and Guy II or Guigues II, comte de Forez, that the policy of the sires de Beaujeu turned eastwards and therefore beyond the Saône. The seigneurie of Saint-Trivier, officially a vassal holding of the Forez, remained in practice loyal to Humbert V de Beaujeu.
