Saint-Romain-le-Puy, (Sent-Romen ou Sent-Romen-le-Pè in Arpitan), is a French commune situated in the département de la Loire in the région Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, and forms part of Loire Forez Agglomération.
A little history
The commune was surveyed in two stages. A campaign of inventory and site verification was carried out by the Groupe de recherches archéologiques de la Loire (GRAL) in 1993, followed by a systematic survey in 2010 which supplements the data already gathered. Located on the left bank of the Curraize, 2.5 km to the north-west of Saint-Romain, there is one of the four lowland settlements of the Ségusiaves dating from the late La Tène period, here on the edge of the voie Bolène, possibly at the crossroads of two roads. The site was discovered in 1864 and has been excavated on numerous occasions. Between 1882 and 1892, many structures were recorded, including the ancient road. A mosaic decorated with fish was also discovered.
