Saint-Germain-lès-Arpajon (pronounced [sɛ̃ ʒɛʁmɛ̃ lɛ.z‿aʁpaʒɔ̃]) is a French commune situated thirty kilometres south-west of Paris in the département of l'Essonne in the Île-de-France region. Its inhabitants are called the Germinois.
A little history
Antiquity. The site, doubtless occupied since the end of the Gaulish period, reveals buildings from the Gallo-Roman era discovered during excavations in the town centre. An enormous hoard of bronze coins from the 3rd century, approximately thirty-four thousand coins, had been discovered by chance in 2008. The discovery was the subject of a publication by the Bibliothèque nationale de France in 2020. It was a dependency of the châtellenie de Montlhéry in the 13th century.
